Many things are changing all around us but one thing remains constant. Nursing is essential. Nurses make up the largest population of healthcare professionals — they spend the greatest amount of time providing direct patient care — and new nurses coming into the workforce are paramount to the continuation of quality patient care. Now more than ever, we need to continue to prepare individuals to enter the profession, critical to the delivery of healthcare in our country.

Galen isn’t just any other college. We are a college of nursing. Only nursing. Born over 30 years ago when need intersected with innovation and imagination in a group of people who had the foresight to dedicate significant resources to the crucial development of the nursing workforce. It is with this foundation that we move forward, steadfast in our mission.

Galen has a history and culture founded on expanding access to quality nursing education through innovation, technology, and student support. We are uniquely structured with the ability to be nimble and swift to adapt the delivery of education, our support systems, and even our curriculum, when faced with a challenge that might impede us from doing otherwise.

We have taken great strides to adapt our curriculum and provide the remote delivery of coursework to our current community situation. We are committed to continuing the essential education of those wishing to join a profession that is critical to the continuation of quality healthcare in our country.

We could not be more proud of our students, our future nurses, who are called to lead, comfort and care for our communities — the world is a better place because of you. Thank you.

Galen College of Nursing is carefully monitoring developments in relation to COVID-19.  Our goal is to be as prepared as possible and to ensure a safe environment for all of our employees and students.

During this evolving situation, The College has taken numerous precautions to lower the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and its spread.

ON CAMPUS PRECAUTIONS

On campus, we have done a number of things to help keep everyone safe.

  • Communications have been sent to all student and employees which provides clear guidance about when to stay home as well as printed reminders around campus.
  • We have increased screening measures for all who enter our campuses.  Anyone who appears sick, has respiratory symptoms or a fever will be sent home.
  • We’ve increased and improved the way in which we clean the building and have communicated all the things we can do to keep ourselves safe
  • Additionally, all employees who can perform their role remotely are doing so to lessen the number of people physically on campus.
  • Instruction is being offered virtually through the end of the term.

HEALTH PRECAUTIONS

  • Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer throughout the day
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Cover a cough with your arm
  • If you develop a cold, mild flu, or respiratory symptoms, stay home until you feel better
  • If you have a fever, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately and follow guidance from your healthcare provider
  • If you learn that you have had contact with a person who is either a confirmed case or is self-quarantined, stay home and contact your supervisor or program director to let us know. Contact your healthcare provider and explain to them the situation, and they will provide guidance.

Evaluation of skills and knowledge in nursing is critical to your success, and we recognize that each course may have different testing and evaluation requirements. [Updated 3/23/20]

Galen recognizes the importance of the role that nurses play in our society.  As a result, we have carefully planned our upcoming term so that we can continue to educate future nurses, while maintaining necessary safety precautions.

Galen’s faculty have taken our theory and lab on-ground courses and moved them to a virtual format.  Rather than sitting in a classroom on campus, you will log into your courses at the regularly scheduled time from home, using Zoom technology. This will allow you to participate in the course just as you would on-ground.

Using a virtual format is different from an online course, because you will be interacting with your peers and faculty in real-time.  Galen will continue to offer traditional online courses as well if you are registered for those, which are described in the Student Catalog.

Information about next term’s schedule will continue to be communicated to you in your student portal.

[Updated 3/23/20]

We realize that our students have a new set of challenges, which includes balancing their education with family life in ways we have not previously imagined. Students will still be required to meet the course outcomes, assignments, and all expectations to successfully pass the course. As always, students should reach out to their faculty member to discuss challenges that may arise.
