Wichita Students Celebrated at Volunteer Appreciation Event

Several members from the Galen Student Nurse Association, from Galen College of Nursing’s Wichita campus, were recognized for their hard work as volunteers.

As part of volunteer appreciation month, the Ronald McDonald House Charities invited both students and faculty, as well as Dr. Keisha Brooks, the dean for Galen’s Wichita campus, to attend a baseball themed dinner. Those in attendance were able to enjoy the game from the suite of Equity Bank Park, the home of the Wichita Wind Surge, while also participating in raffles and listening to guest speakers.

“Volunteers have been at the heart of our mission since the very beginning—offering their time, compassion, and steady presence to families when they need it most,” said Courtney Burnett with the Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita.

The GNSA students have helped as meal program volunteers for the past two years, helping to make life a little easier at a time when families need it most. Once a month the students will prepare meals for more than 40 families, ranging from breakfast to dinner meals.
