Galen College of Nursing signed and submitted the required Certification Agreement to the Department of Education to participate in both the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) II (CRSSA) and HEERF III (American Rescue Plan).

Keep reading to learn more about this—how these funds are used, the amount awarded to our students, and the process for awarding funds. If you want the details, see the quarterly grant reports.

How Funds Were Used

We received $9,046,172 to provide emergency relief funds directly to students. These funds assisted students with expenses generally incurred by college students such as:

  • housing
  • transportation
  • personal expenses
  • books/supplies

Funds covered emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus such as:

  • tuition
  • food
  • housing
  • health care
  • childcare

Amount of Funds Awarded

We estimate that approximately 8,200 students are eligible to apply for emergency relief funding under these programs.  As of March 31, $8,065,360 has been awarded to 7,076 eligible students. These funds were awarded through student application and employee referral.

Based on guidance published by the Department of Education, grants are prioritized to students with exceptional financial need, such as those who receive Pell Grants.

How Funds Get Awarded

Eligible students were identified through an application process as well as employee referrals throughout the College.
