Galen College of Nursing and Medical City Healthcare
Celebrated Grand Opening of New Dallas Campus
Dallas, TX, May 9, 2024 – Galen College of Nursing, a proud affiliate of Medical City Healthcare, hosted a grand opening event on Wednesday, May 8, at its new Dallas campus located at 1301 W. President George Bush Hwy, Richardson, TX 75080.
The grand opening not only marked the inauguration of the new campus but also provided an opportunity for attendees to explore the college and experience firsthand the simulated lab demonstrations that are a cornerstone of Galen’s innovative approach to nursing education.
A large crowd of guests were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony that featured speakers Mark Vogt, Chief Executive Officer, Galen College of Nursing; Allen Harrison, President, HCA Healthcare, North Texas Division; Zach Mueller, Chief Nursing Executive, HCA Healthcare, North Texas Division; Brittany Wall, Dean, Galen College of Nursing, Dallas Campus; and City Council Member Curtis Dorian, City of Richardson.
“At Galen, our mission has always been about expanding access and bringing people into the profession,” Vogt said. “After talking to students today about their journey, I’m excited that this campus was built just for them. The care they will provide as nurses will transform our communities.”
Spanning more than 40,000 square feet, the Dallas campus is one of the area’s most unique educational facilities dedicated solely to nursing. Focusing on developing clinical judgment and reasoning, Galen’s nursing degree programs are designed to prepare nursing students to enter the workforce with confidence, preparedness, and compassion.
“We are proud to be able to welcome the Galen College of Nursing as part of HCA Healthcare to the Dallas and Richardson area,” Harrison said. “We have seen firsthand the great work that Galen is doing at bringing new people into the workforce to meet the nursing deficit.”
The campus features modern clinical learning laboratories equipped with patient-simulation mannequins. Under the supervision of experienced professional nurse educators, students will have the opportunity to practice fundamental patient care skills, both individually and in groups, in a supportive and engaging learning environment.
During the grand opening, Galen honored nursing leader Dr. Shirley S. Chater, PhD, RN, FAAN, by dedicating The Dr. Shirley Chater Student Success Center. As a Galen College of Nursing Board Emeritus, Dr. Chater has received national recognition and acclaim for empowering diverse students and developing nurse leaders.
“Dr. Chater would always say the most powerful, profound things that have laid the groundwork for the things that we’re doing here tonight,” said Vogt of Dr. Chater, who was not in attendance. “She was the instrumental architect for what the Galen vision and mission statement are all about.”
The Center offers a learning environment that reflects Dr. Chater’s values and commitment to nursing leadership and student support. She has left a substantial mark on healthcare and education by centering her work around the specific needs and experiences of patients and students.
City Council Member Dorian said the City of Richardson is fortunate to have Galen College of Nursing in its community, educating future nurses who will live and work in the region.
“We are thankful for Galen and HCA playing a role in helping address the critical nursing shortages in our area by helping to fill the pipeline of future nurses that will raise our quality of care,” he said.
