Galen College of Nursing was born over 30 years ago In Louisville, Kentucky, when a group of healthcare leaders had the foresight to dedicate significant resources to the crucial development of the nursing workforce. The need for nurses intersected with innovation, creativity, and imagination.

Mission Built – Dedicated to opportunity

With a mission dedicated solely to expanding access to quality nursing education, Galen became an independent education institution in 1993, understanding that the nation’s existing higher education systems could not meet the demand for new nurses as the largest workforce within healthcare.

It didn’t take long to comprehend Galen’s true transformative power. The single-purpose College was not only educating future nurses, but also changing lives. By providing the same excellence, care, and commitment to students expected of them in practice, Galen honors and fulfills potential, providing opportunity to all those called to nursing.

Legacy Strengthened – HCA Healthcare and Galen College of Nursing: Advancing the Future of Nursing

HCA Healthcare acquired Galen College of Nursing in 2020, uniting two organizations dedicated to nursing and quality care. This remarkable investment in the future of nursing was a catalyst that ignited Galen’s ability to deliver quality nursing education across the country and elevate the potential for impact. Together, HCA Healthcare and Galen College of Nursing lead innovation and excellence in nursing education to advance nursing practice and expand quality education opportunities to all those called to nursing.

Today, more than 40,000 nurses have graduated from Galen. They continue to embrace the opportunity to honor and fulfill potential, for the compassionate and quality care of all patients.
