Dr. Audria Denker Inducted into American Academy of Nursing’s 2026 Class of Fellows

This week, the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) announced its prestigious Class of 2026 Fellows, and Galen College of Nursing’s Dr. Audria Denker, DNP, RN, FAADN, ANEF, has been officially inducted.

As Galen’s Chief Clinical, Integration, and Experience Officer, Dr. Denker has spent decades transforming nursing education and patient care. This latest honor recognizes her as a true catalyst for change in the healthcare industry.

“Being selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing is one of the greatest honors of my career,” said Dr. Denker. “As a first-generation college student, former high school dropout, nurse, educator, and leader, this recognition is both humbling and deeply meaningful.”

A Journey Shaped by Determination and Community

The AAN Class of 2026 represents 39 states and 17 countries, highlighting nurses who leverage clinical expertise and scientific knowledge to solve complex healthcare challenges. Dr. Denker’s path to this global stage is a powerful reminder of resilience.

Reflecting on the achievement, she emphasized that success is never a solo journey:

“I have been blessed throughout my career by extraordinary nurses, mentors, colleagues, and friends who challenged me to grow, supported me through difficult moments, and inspired me to lead with purpose. I am especially grateful to Katheryn Mershon, founder of Galen College of Nursing, whose vision transformed nursing education and created opportunities for countless nurses, including me. I also extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Tracy Ortelli, President and Chief Academic Officer of Galen, for her unwavering support, encouragement, and friendship throughout this journey.”

A Legacy of Impact: From Local Roots to National Growth

Dr. Denker’s impressive academic foundation began with an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) from Pikeville College, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Bellarmine University. Since joining Galen in 2005, she has been instrumental in the college’s evolution from a regional institution into a massive national education enterprise. Today, Galen spans 25 campuses across 13 states, serving more than 20,000 students.

In addition to her executive leadership, Dr. Denker is active in civic and professional service. She currently serves as President of the Kentucky Board of Nursing and has contributed nationally through roles with OADN, NCSBN, and the National League for Nursing. She is a Fellow of both the Academy of Associate Degree Nursing (FAADN) and the Academy of Nursing Education (ANEF).
