Galen College of Nursing Adds New Director of Campus Safety
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (August 14, 2025) – Galen College of Nursing is proud to welcome Michael Stansbury as its inaugural Director of Campus Safety—a role designed to transform how we think about safety in a healthcare-focused academic environment. Stansbury recently retired as the Special Agent in Charge of the Louisville FBI Field Office.
With more than 30 years of distinguished law enforcement experience, including over two decades with the FBI, Stansbury brings deep expertise in criminal investigations, gang violence, organized crime, and national security. Now just a few weeks into the position, Stansbury is already making connections across campuses and laying the groundwork for his vision.
Among his first steps: conducting listening sessions across several campuses, reviewing emergency protocols, and evaluating current security measures for opportunities to enhance both safety and peace of mind. He says his number one objective is to maintain a welcoming environment for students while also keeping them safe.
“My goal is to build a comprehensive campus safety and security program that becomes the gold standard for our type of educational environment,” said Stansbury. “Five years from now, I want Galen to be the model that others look to when it comes to keeping students and staff safe.”
“As our number of campuses continue to grow, it’s more important than ever that we provide safe and welcoming places for students to learn and thrive,” said Marshall Moore, Galen’s Vice President of Campus Operations. “Michael brings a great blend of experience, humility, and strategic vision that makes him the ideal person to lead this effort.”
Although Galen College of Nursing has existing safety policies and procedures in place, the institution has never had a Director of Campus Safety.
Looking ahead, Stansbury envisions a fully integrated safety strategy across Galen campuses—one that prioritizes prevention and uses technology wisely without losing the human touch. His long-term initiatives include a visible and welcoming security team, streamlined safety protocols and processes, and improved communication channels for campus closings and weather-related events.
