Black History Month: Reflection and Responsibility with Dr. Ruby Alvarez

Black History Month invites us to look both backward and forward, honoring the past while taking responsibility for the future. In an essay for the Organization of Associate Degree Nursing, Galen Orlando Dean Dr. Ruby Alvarez shares a deeply personal and professional reflection on what this centennial year of Black history observances means for nursing, education, and community leadership across the nation. Her words remind us that progress is sustained through learning, partnership, and purposeful action.

As we honor Black History, we must also strengthen our commitment to equity, dignity, and inclusive leadership in the future.
