Setting a Record: 1,962 Sandwiches and One Big Mission

At Galen College of Nursing, we are constantly inspired by our students’ dedication to the communities they serve. This week, students from our Houston campus‘ NSG 3480 class took that dedication to a record-breaking level while volunteering with our community partner, Kids’ Meals, Inc.

Competing under the team name “The Bagettes,” these future nurses rolled up their sleeves and made history by preparing 1,962 peanut butter sandwiches in a single volunteering shift. To put that in perspective, they surpassed a high bar recently set by ExxonMobil Power Development, which previously completed 1,600 sandwiches.

Big Impact for Little Lives

This achievement is more than just a impressive number—it represents nearly 2,000 children who are one step closer to receiving a healthy lunch delivered directly to their door.

This record-breaking shift is part of a long-standing tradition of service at Galen’s Houston Campus. In fact, the campus recently earned the #3 spot on the Top 50 Volunteer Groups of 2025 list by Kids’ Meals, Inc.

The Galen Way

Whether they are in the classroom, the clinical setting, or out in the community, our students consistently prove that they are ready to lead with compassion. “The Bagettes” have shown us exactly what happens when passionate volunteers come together with a shared mission: they create a massive impact for little lives.

Congratulations to the students of NSG 3480 on your record-breaking shift!
