Celebrating Compassion: New Ceremony Marks Students’ Next Chapter

Students at Galen College of Nursing campuses across the country this week marked the next stage of their nursing education with a special ceremony.

Galen Deans and Program Directors at every campus hosted the Compassionate Care ceremony for our VN/PN, ADN, ADN Bridge, and BSN students. The ceremony is for students who have completed their general education requirements, and they’re entering their first nursing courses and clinical rotations. From here on out, these students will be fully focused on nursing classes through the end of their programs, as they work on the skills to care for the lives of many in their communities.

During the ceremony, students are recognized for their skill and knowledge to get to this point, and they’re reminded of the heart they bring to nursing. Students will learn about how compassionate care isn’t just a mantra, but how we live and work at Galen. The ceremony celebrates students for taking the next step in their nursing journey and includes a presentation of Galen pins to mark their move to the next stag.

Finally, students recited the Compassion Pledge.

With my heart and my hands, I pledge to care for others with unwavering compassion.
I will listen with empathy, bringing patience, respect, and professional presence to each interaction.
I will apply my nursing knowledge and skill to the best of my ability, recognizing each person’s worth, while honoring their dignity.
I will comfort and protect those who entrust me in their care, advocating for their needs with integrity.
Today, I pledge to skillfully perform the art and the science of nursing in every encounter and above all else, I am committed to the care and improvement of human life.

Afterwards, the students, faculty members, and clinical partners came together to celebrate and take a photo. We’re so proud of our students, and we can’t wait to see how they learn and grow into compassionate, competent, and confident nurses.
